Julie A. Caprio
Julie A Caprio formerly of The Harkness Dance Theatre, The Kansas City Ballet and The Washington Ballet Company has performed, taught and choreographed in the United States, Europe and Asia. At the age of 15 she was a trainee with Harkness NYC. Studying with Sulamith Messerer, Robert Blankshine, Lisa Bradley, Maesto Vincenzo Celli, Robert Scevers, Anne Hebard, Luc de Lairesse and others, learning Cecchetti, Vaganova and Balanchine technique. Julie performed in NYC and on the Asian Tour directed by Christopher Aponte'. She later joined the Kansas City Ballet under the direction of Todd Bolender. Julie was offered a soloist contract with The Washington Ballet Company under the direction of Mary Day and Choo San Goh, performing throughout the US and Asia.
After leaving her full time performing career she continued to perform as a guest artist while teaching at private schools and colleges. Eventually opening her own studio offering ballet and pointe classes. In 1996 Julie was invited to perform in China with eight of her own students and several guest artists. Years following while maintaining her studio she also taught for The Governors School NJ, performing arts schools and in Germany for an International Summer Intensive.
Her philosophy in teaching is to train and cultivate the individual as a thinking artist, dancer and performer.
